Home page Redesign
Timeline
From research, explorations to final designs in 4 weeks, solely focusing on this project.
Brief challenge
Choose a website to analyse which sells physical or digital products, experiences, or services. Avoid large international digital-first companies like Apple or Amazon which generally have complex and well-considered UX. Instead, look for an SME (a Small to Medium-sized Enterprise) which may need help to improve its UX. Use a business-to-consumer site (B2C), not a consumer-toconsumer site (C2C) e.g. Vinted/eBay or a business-to business site (B2B).
Brief context
We might instinctively recognise good and bad user experience in the websites and apps that we encounter, but what processes can we use to evaluate usability and identify improvements that need to be made? How do we know that a digital product works well, not just for ourselves as designers, but for wider audiences? How do we evaluate the usability of our own designs before investing valuable time and energy turning them into products? These are all fundamental questions for UX designers, and they can be answered through evaluative research methods.
Website background
ARTBOX is the UK’s dream destination for cute authentic character goods, stationery and homeware from Japan, and other kawaii inspired brands. They are the UK's retailer of Sanrio Original goods direct from Tokyo, and we stock brands such as San-X, Pusheen, BT21, LINE FRIENDS and tokidoki. ARTBOX.co.uk ships from the UK and delivers worldwide.
Research & Planning
First identified red routes and created a sitemap of Artbox to understand what actions a consumer may take when visiting the website. With the Artbox sitemap, I compared the research with a different sitemap of a more modern website of their competitor to understand what is missing from the website. I then conducted user interviews research to identify navigation challenges within the existing website and user preferences with websites of today.
Design & Prototyping
With the research I gathered, I implemented my findings to my wireframes for the redesign, focusing on the overall look of the home page and filtering system.
